Kunming, Yunnan ~ day two

These are banyan trees in Yunnan Province. They are very fat. Banyan trees can become very, very wide because their roots become new trunks.

These are statues of elephants that we saw in Kunming. They were eggshell white. There was a real elephant just around the corner from here.

These pictures were taken inside a Hani home in the ethnic minority villages.

We kept warm by their fire while they played their flutes.

They gave us some of their tea. That was very nice of them.

Their music was beautiful. They also sang for us.

This is a Mongolian carriage left in Yunnan after the war.

This old man was carrying his grandson on his back with just a strap under his legs and a strap under his arms. It didn't look comfortable but the baby was sleeping.

This Miao woman was sewing shoe inserts. They put new liners inside their shoes every few months.

This is the head of a traditional dragon boat. The boat was full of water because it had recently rained.

We saw this peacock during lunch. I took this picture myself.

These are beautiful handmade tapestries by the water. We bought one of them.

That's all we did today. Tomorrow we will fly for one hour to Zhoutong (Jow-tongue), Yunnan and meet some of the girls. I am excited to meet the girls, but not to go on another airplane.

What amazing pictures and experiences! I loved seeing these today and hearing about all the interesting things you're finding to do. Have a safe flight to your next stop!

wow! What a trip, Allison. There's just so much to learn and see. I can't wait to see the tapestry.

Now if you could only just wish yourself to the next destination instead of getting on yet another airplane (Kingfisher???) . . .

Love,
Nana
